Reveiw by Matt Marcus, President, New Horizon Academy
Letting Go starts as a police drama and nea tly turns into an action adventure, taking the charters through cities, towns and jungles. The characters are well-drawn and compelling. The lead character, Smith Kerns, bears the scars of battle, and his story is told with realism, as the author, Robert Stave, brings his own experiences to bear. Letting Go is a fast paced adventure and an easy read. Pick up a copy; you won't want to put it down.

Fish FoodFive out of Five Stars!Five Stars
5 star Review of James D. Loy's book: Fish Food
Great beach day or afternoon read
by D. Field on July 29, 2015

I picked up Fish Food at the Mountain Made shop in Asheville, NC last week. As a marine science educator, who has kept both piranha and moray eels, AND as a teacher who vehemently believes in the Oxford comma, the jacket description sounded like this book would be a fun read. Fish Food is fast-paced, witty, sometimes irreverent, and will leave you laughing out loud multiple times. James D. Loy does an effective job with character development in a relatively short book and expertly employs plot twists without making the story overly complex. The comedy is in the style of Dave Barry right down to a foul-mouthed parrot. I read the book comfortably in an afternoon and am now passing it on to my husband. Fish Food is an unexpected little gem of a book and certainly worth a few hours of time.

The Hemingway MonologuesFive out of Five Stars!Five Stars
5 star Review of Brian Gordon Sinclair's book: The Hemingway Monologues
A must read for those interested in theater, drama, history, love and life.

This book is fabulous. The understandably celebrated Mr. Sinclair is a gifted writer and his energy and spirit captures the essence of Ernest Hemingway, so much so that he brings him to life as he explores turbulent and tender moments. What a pleasure it would be to actually see Mr. Sinclair on stage as he becomes the character. I enjoyed the simplicity and elegant style and I look forward to reading more from Mr. Sinclair, truly a remarkable talented man. This book is highly recommended for all ages and even for teens who are learning to read, perform and write plays. This Monologue is perfect for high school and college and community drama clubs. It is also perfect for the person who enjoys reading while being alone in a canoe as it gently drifts down stream.

Sailing Down the MountainFive out of Five Stars!Five Stars
A beautiful story, beautifully told January 1, 2015
By Helen A. Harrison

Format:Paperback
Full disclosure: my name is Helen Harrison, but I’m not Ben’s wife. I met him, and the Helen he married, on a visit to Key West 25 years ago, and I’ve been eagerly anticipating this book ever since. As Ben confesses in the introduction, he began writing it on a Remington manual typewriter in 1978! It was worth the wait. He tells a remarkable story—equal parts quixotic adventure, challenging physical labor, and spiritual journey of self-discovery—with wit, grace, and self-deprecating humor. Spurred by an unexpected legacy, the couple’s decision to move to Costa Rica, build a boat and live on it seemed crazy to everyone, including them. But as Ben wrote in his journal at the time (1973): “We are not sure what life’s purpose is, but sailing seems to have some point.” The book is peppered with journal entries that chronicle not only the day-to-day chores and challenges, the fun, food and sex (all great), but also the emotional highs and lows and the deepening bond between two people whose commitment to the project and to each other survived many storms, nautical and otherwise.

Skook
Skook
Review by Hunter Shea, Author of Paranormal Books (on the web)
I literally got this book because I liked saying the title – over and over again. Drove my kids crazy. Turns out this is a damn fine story about a man and his young son and the terrifying encounters they have with a posse of Skooks – which, of course, are squatches. There’s actually a generations-old agreement between the skooks and ‘chosen’ humans who live in relative peace, but sometimes lines are crossed. There is an attack at a cabin that actually left me breathless. Worth it for that scene alone. 4 out of 5 squatch prints.

After Life
After Life: Images from the Key West Cemetery
Bringing the Key West Cemetery to Life
By Peg Gregory on April 17, 2014
Format: Paperback
As a long time Key Wester who used to ride my trike through the Key West Cemetery twice on Sunday and at other times to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this unique and final resting place of so many Key West locals and sailors who perished in the Navy ship, the USS Maine, when it sank off the coast of Cuba in 1898, I was thrilled to see After Life, Images from the Key West Cemetery. It is a wonderful collaborative effort by photographers Carol Tedesco and Roberta DePiero, with narrative by historical novelist Jane Newhagen. It was like going home and experiencing those same feelings again, as I looked at the beautiful and amazing photography by Tedesco and DePiero and read the succinct but fitting narrative by Newhagen. The book was sent to me by a long time friend in Key West and I'm so grateful, because I wouldn't have missed this stroll through the Key West Cemetery for anything. A memorable work by three very talented ladies!

Was an excellent picture book of typical Key West, especially the cemetery. I wish there was more of a description of each photo, but I understand that this is somewhat of an artistic book. It reminded me of pictures of the New Orleans cemeteries. I would recommend this book to people into genealogical searching in cemeteries and to those who are from Key West or would like to see Key West.

A beautiful book!
By Catherine Lutz on March 12, 2014

This book is a delightful tribute and legacy to Key West heritage. The photographers, Carol Tedesco and Roberta DePiero truly captured the historical beauty of this old cemetery. The images, along with Jane Newhagen’s narrative are a wonderful tribute to this exceptional resting place. I’m pleased that one of the book’s photographs is that of my ancestor’s headstone. It’s nice to have a little piece of my family history included in this volume of beautiful photographs. It’s a lovely book I recommend it highly.

BelleVilleFive out of Five Stars!Five Stars
After Life: Images from the Key West Cemetery
A real photographic treasure!,
March 2, 2014
By Donna J. Robinson "Conchgirrrl" (Ormond by the Sea, FL)
There aren't many places left in Key West that still feel like "home" but the Key West Cemetery is one of them. Thanks to Roberta DePiero and Carol Tedesco for their beutiful photographs, and Jane Newhagen for her narratives throughout I feel as though I'm home again, even if for a short while. The marble statues, the rusty wrought iron fences & gates, and the Key West chickens are all sentimental and meaningful reminders of a much older, historic Key West and the ancestors who passed a hundred and more years ago. This book is a gem for anyone who has a special place in their heart for the Key West Cemetery. I'm so happy I purchased it.

Newspaper GypsyNewspaper Gypsy by William R. Burkett, Jr. $3.99
- review by Don Cullimore
"I finished Newspaper Gypsy and was sorry there weren't more stories. a marvelous book--wonderful stories well told. A first-class piece of writing. I hope there is more in this line of writing to come. "The book stirred the subconscious; many long-forgotten memories from my cub reporter days at the Jacksonville Journal and from our army years. Memories of newsrooms, of improbable stories, of people ... and women I've known and loved. It has also stirred up an aching sense of nostalgia." Buy and/or Read More >>>

BelleVille - Next Gone With The Wind?
May 22, 2013
by Peg Gregory
This review is from: BelleVille (Book One) (Kindle Edition) Honestly, reading Lura Gorman's BelleVille was a thrill. I truly did feel that I was holding the next great Civil War epic in my hands! This book has everything - from a 14 year old girl, a slave at that, being placed into the untenable position of having to take charge of a plantation to the realistic scene in which the women lay on the floor of the balcony and defend their home and their lives from the Union forces. There was no black and white in BelleVille; there was simply one people working together to save this beautiful old plantation they all loved. If BelleVille does not get picked up by an important Hollywood producer, I will be shocked. And, this was only Book One! I can't wait to get my hands on Book Two!

This book amazed me with the witty writing while telling one's life story. Not being in the military, I found the part of the book both on OCS school and the experiences in Vietnam riveting and informational. I never hitchhiked in my life but I found the stories on his travel across the country to the Bahamas very entertaining. Key West in the early days in also very interesting and if one is into marine salvage, you can almost feel the danger on and in the water. I'm looking forward to more books by this author. You won't be disappointed.

Classic science fiction stories
A great collection of classic science fiction stories with apocalyptic themes. The stories remind you that sci-fi used to tell a good story and not dwell on the technical. With all the talk about Dec 21, 2012, these stories are as timely as if written yesterday.
